This week in our class we set up an experiment to find out what plants need to grow. We watered one pot and put it in a sunny place. The second one we watered and put into a press where it would get no light. We then put another one on both the windowsill and in the press but this time we didn't water them. Each day we checked how they were doing and recorded our results. Here's what they looked like today, can you guess which is which?
This week was maths week and in our class we went on a maths trail around our school. We were estimating and measuring distances, counting objects around our school and looking for 2d shapes as well as much more.

Gardening

We went out to our school garden yesterday and got to see how our garden looks in Autumn. We planted onions and were very careful to plant them the right way around and leave enough space for them to grow. We must keep a close eye on them for the next few weeks to make sure that the birds don't pull them out of the ground. Hopefully they will grow well!

This month we've been learning all about Autumn. We learnt all about the changes in weather and how these effect the plants and animals. In Autumn the leaves change from green to yellow, orange, red and brown and look really beautiful around our school. We used paint and cotton buds to make pictures of the Autumn trees.

In our class we've been learning about soil and what you can find it. At our different groups we completed different experiments and shared our findings with the rest of our class. To help us find out what soil is made up of we used a sieve to find the larger parts. At another group we used magnifying glasses and tweezers to get a closer look at what we could find. We found twigs, stones, pebbles, a worm, grass, roots, a spider and some small bugs in the soil sample. At our other two groups we used different methods to filter the soil out of dirty water and try make it cleaner. One group used a coffee filter while the other used cotton wool, sand and small stones. Why don't you have a look at our results....
